Qualifications:

The individual must have graduated from a recognized Civil or Architectural Technologies College. The individual must have prior experience estimating in steel construction. They must also be team orientated and able to work closely with customers and other estimating staff.

Job Description:

Process requests for quotation in a timely manner and in conjunction with the estimating schedule set out by the Customer Service Manager, with the most suitable possible product application and economy.

Compensation:

This will be a full time position with benefits (after successful completion of probationary period). Compensation will be determined based on past experience and skill levels.

Steelway Building Systems, Canada’s leading manufacturer of steel buildings requires conventional steel detailers for our engineering and drafting department. We are expanding our markets and there is a demand for Steelway to provide conventional steel structures as part of a complete building solution. To keep up with this demand, we require additional detailing resources that are able to work in a team environment and contribute to our success as a quality manufacturer of Steel Building Systems.

Qualifications:

The individuals must have excellent ACAD skills and have graduated from a recognized Civil, Mechanical or Architectural Technologists College. The individuals must have a minimum 3 -5 years prior experience working in a detailing/drafting office. They must also be team orientated and able to work closely with more senior checkers. Solid working knowledge of 3-D detailing software such as Pro-Steel would be an asset.

Job Description:

The primary responsibility would be to detail all of the required cladding, decking and structural components required for each building order. This would include the preparation of shipping lists, beam cut lists and fabrication drawings. The successful candidate must be able to check their own work and have very good ACAD skills and speed. They must also be able to learn 3-D object orientated steel detailing software.

Responsibilities:

• Receiving building orders assigned to him/her and carrying out the necessary structural design calculations relating to all components of the building to ensure the most efficient use of material which at the same time meet the building code requirements and company policies on design.
• Transmitting building reactions.
• Checking and verifying anchor bolt plan and reactions and following up on the timely transmittal of this information to the customer.
• Checking preliminary drawings for conformation to the approved design.
• Reviewing any suggestions by drafting or manufacturing which would improve the efficiency of the product.
• Keeping abreast of new developments such as code changes or new technology (i.e. computer programs).
• Visiting shop and field from time to time, to be informed on the application of designs.
• Assisting Customer Services in the quoting process when required
• Assisting with special projects as assigned.

Technical Requirements

• Knowledge of all applicable building codes (NBC 2005, OBC 2006, design codes (S16, S136, W47 and W59), specifications and industry practices.
• Knowledge of manufacturer processes, limitations and capacities.
• Knowledge of in-house design software (Metal Building Software)
• Understanding of detailing methods and policies.
• Able to verify computer software designs as required.
• Keep current of all new code requirements and industry practices.
• Understanding of building erection procedures. Additional Requirements

Education and Experience

• Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University.
• Must have a Professional Engineer’s designation from PEO, or be enrolled in a program to achieve the designation.
• Understanding of Engineering principles related to steel design

Description

Qualifications
