Technical Sales Support - SMH

 

Steelway Material Handling, a leading manufacturer of overhead material handling products, is continuing to grow and has an immediate opening a Technical Sales Support position.

 

Purpose:

The purpose of the Techincal Sales Support is to assist in quoting, designing, and detailing crane projects as well as providing crane design data to SBS estimating team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of crane offers in conjunction with the SBS building estimating
  • Preparation of crane approval / manufacturing drawings for crane projects
  • Preparation of project quality control documentation
  • Spare parts inquiries / quoting of replacement spare parts
  • Purchasing of spare parts / maintain spare parts inventory
  • Preparation of crane owners’ manuals
     

Technical Requirements:

  • Reading and interpreting prints and bills;
  • Knowledge of crane products, crane manufacturing and general fabrication and crane installations & erection.
  • Concepts used in pre-engineered buildings as they relate to crane installations.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of AutoCad
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel etc.
     

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a Mechanical Engineering Technology / Technician program or equivalent;
  • Maintain a level of education necessary to keep pace with new manufacturing technology and company requirements.

Structural Engineer
Steelway Building Systems, a leading manufacturer of Steel Building Systems, has an immediate requirement for Structural Engineer for designing conventional style construction using standard structural components such a wide flange, angle, channel, joist, and deck. These structure include mezzanine and crane runway systems as well as single and multistory buildings.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Receiving building orders assigned to him/her and carrying out the necessary structural design calculations relating to all components of the building to ensure the most efficient use of material which at the same time meet the building code requirements and company policies on design.
  • Transmitting building reactions.
  • Checking and verifying anchor bolt plan and reactions and following up on the timely transmittal of this information to the customer.
  • Checking preliminary drawings for conformation to the approved design.
  • Reviewing any suggestions by drafting or manufacturing which would improve the efficiency of the product.
  • Keeping abreast of new developments such as code changes or new technology (i.e. computer programs).
  • Visiting shop and field from time to time, to be informed on the application of designs.
  • Assisting Customer Services in the quoting process when required
  • Assisting with special projects as assigned.

Additional Initial Responsibilities

 

Since this is a new department being created, there are additional responsibilities required until new people and resources are added.

  • Detail and check structures using appropriate detailing software
  • Coordinate that detailing of projects with outside detailing resources
  • Estimating potential projects for customers
  • Coordinating projects with customers including managing change orders

Technical Requirements

  • Knowledge of all applicable building codes, design codes, specifications and industry practices.
  • Knowledge of manufacturer processes, limitations and capacities.
  • Knowledge of in-house design software.
  • Understanding of detailing methods and policies.
  • Able to verify computer software designs as required.
  • Keep current of all new code requirements and industry practices.
  • Understanding of building erection procedures. Additional Requirements
  • Liaise and co-operate with all other employees to enable the Company to achieve its goals and objectives and realize a profit.
  • Ensure that quality is built into the product at each stage of design.
  • Constantly strive to improve methods and procedures.
  • Find more efficient ways to design in order to reduce design hours.
  • Promote a work environment where all employees are a contributing factor and a necessary part of the Steelway team.
  • Knowledge of ProSteel software is an asset

Education and Experience

  • Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University.
  • Must have a Professional Engineer’s designation from PEO, or be enrolled in a program to achieve the designation.
  • Understanding of Engineering principles related to steel design

Intermediate Detailer

Description


Junior and/or intermediate detailers are required to perform various department functions and effectively work in a team environment.
Junior/Intermediate detailers report directly to the Drafting Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate(s) must have a college diploma from a civil, architectural or mechanical program.
  • Past experience in structural steel detailing would be an asset.
  • A good knowledge of standard drafting, manufacturing and installation practices.
  • A good knowledge of AutoCAD, Excel, Word and Outlook are required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of detailing structural and cladding components for various building projects.
  • Required to effectively use ACAD as well as other software used within the department to complete shop drawings, cut lists, shipping lists and erection drawings for both structural and cladding.
  • Able to effectively work in teams, as assigned, and complete scheduled work on time.
  • Complete and/or review approval drawings as assigned.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

  • Must have a minimum Engineering/Architectural/Mechanical Technologist diploma.
  • Must have good working knowledge of various software packages and understand basic programming concepts.
